Healthcare and COVID-19

Perseverance throughout COVID-19

I am going to address the elephant in the room today. I promise this blogs intention is NOT to focus on COVID, furthermore, if I am honest this topic is going to arise from time to time. It has been our lives for over a year.

Life… man this is a tough one. Without a doubt, these past eighteen months have proven our resilience and strength. It has also tested our compassion, patience and sanity. Wether, you are a believer in COVID-19 or you doubt it’s existence it has not been easy.

Healthcare

I have been in the healthcare profession for seventeen years. Healthcare is not easy and throughout my career has never been easy. It is ever changing.

These past eighteen months I have seen healthcare change rapidly. There were precautions taken, mistakes made, vaccinations given, lives saved and lives lost. In hindsight, one of the biggest mistakes we made as a nation was eliminating visitors from the bedside. As human beings we need companionship not only the patients but the families need to able to see their loved ones, know they are okay, help them make decisions, and be there for them when they are sick or dying.

Throughout this pandemic, I was both a nurse and a family member. We do understand what you are going through. It was hard and we hated not letting you in to see your loved ones. We know you need to be there for them, help them make life altering decisions.

Leaving Healthcare

I have seen so many professional leave healthcare. First, they left due to fear. Fear of the unknown, fear for their family and loved ones. Now, they are leaving due to exhaustion’s, fatigue, lack of compassion, being overworked to our core and see people everyday that refuse to protect themselves
